Copy, paste, send. Get a refund for a recent Netflix, Spotify, Disney+ or other streaming charge — companies often refund or offer free months.

When to use it

Use this template within a few days after a subscription renewal or unexpected charge. It works best if you explain that the renewal was not intended, that you have barely used the service recently, or that you are reviewing your expenses due to a difficult financial moment.

    How to use it

    1. 1Replace the bracketed text with your own details.
    2. 2Send the message through the service’s support form, chat, or support email.
    3. 3Be polite and appreciative. Companies respond better when the tone is respectful and grateful.
    4. 4If they refuse the refund, you can send the follow-up message below.

Subject: Request regarding recent subscription charge

    Hello,

    I hope you’re doing well.

I recently noticed a charge of [amount] for the renewal of my subscription to [service name].

First of all, I want to say that I’ve genuinely enjoyed the service. I’ve always had a very good experience with [service name], and I truly appreciate the work your team does. It has been a great platform and something I’ve enjoyed using.

Unfortunately, the renewal caught me a bit off guard. At the moment I’m going through a period where I’m reviewing my expenses quite carefully, as things are a little tight financially right now.

Because of that, I wanted to ask if it would be possible to cancel the recent renewal and issue a refund for this latest charge.

This is not a reflection of the service at all. I’ve honestly enjoyed using it and I would absolutely consider subscribing again in the future once my financial situation improves.

For now, I’m simply trying to reduce some recurring expenses and be more careful with my monthly commitments.

If it’s possible to cancel the renewal and process the refund, I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you very much for your understanding and for the great service you provide.

    Kind regards,

    [Your name]

Follow-up if they do not offer an alternative

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me and for taking the time to review my request.

I completely understand that you have standard policies in place. I just wanted to check one more time if there might be any flexibility in this situation.

As mentioned before, I truly enjoy the service and the experience I’ve had with [service name], but right now I’m trying to reduce some monthly expenses due to a difficult financial moment.

If a refund isn’t possible, I may unfortunately need to cancel the subscription to avoid additional charges going forward.

If there is any option such as a refund, account credit, temporary pause, or a few complimentary months, I would really appreciate any help you could offer.

Thank you again for your time and understanding.

    Why this letter works

This template helps request a refund for a recent subscription charge on streaming platforms. It works especially well when the message communicates appreciation for the service while explaining that the user is currently going through a financially difficult period. Companies often prefer issuing a refund or offering free months instead of losing a long-term customer.
